Patrinella Cooper was fortunate enough to be born in a bender tent near Manchester, England, to a traditional Romany family who could satisfy her curiosity with their wisdom. She spent her early years in a horse- drawn wagon. She eloped at 17 and moved to Australia, where she and her husband made a living by fortune-telling, hawking, opal mining, gold fossicking, and working the fairs. She now lives in the east of England.
